KUALA LUMPUR – A Facebook user, Eve Wei-Jia Lim, took to social media to share a story after she found out the reason behind her “unusually high“ electricity bill charges all this while.
Eve said her house electricity bills have always been strange. It costs around RM 700 to RM 800 a month, which is “unusually high” for her. In order to solve the problem, TNB came to her house for inspection many times over the years.
“I did various experiments trying to solve the bill issue, from turning off the refrigerator and air-cond, staying at my friend’s house and not turning on the electricity at my house, to asking electricians to see if there was any electrical leakage.”
Sometimes the electricians will help her replace heater parts, and sometimes TNB will replace the meter at her house. She spent a lot of money to change this and that back and forth, but to no avail. “I have no choice but continued paying for those high electricity bills every month to prevent cut-off,” said Eve.
But something even worse happened.
“In July this year, I received an electricity bill amounted to RM 1500. I was so shocked and angry!”
But Eve can’t do anything with it. So she decided to call TNB to turn off her house’s main electricity switch to see if the meter continues to calculate.
Guess what?
Something strange happened.
The lights at her house were still on, and the fan was spinning even after the main power was turned off! At that time, the TNB employee chuckled and said: “Let’s wait and see.”
Five minutes later, her neighbour’s maid came and asked: “Kenapa tak ada api?”
So the whole thing comes to light. The housing developer back then messed up the house number and the meters of the two houses. She has been paying for her neighbour’s electricity bills these 5 years, totaling up to 15k!
Eve also emphasized that this is not an incident of electricity theft on her Facebook post.
