Expectation vs. reality of RM17 Cromboloni

However, the surge in popularity has led to a mixed bag of results, particularly from inexperienced bakers.

This trend’s mixed outcomes were humorously showcased by TikTok user @bombolonia in a 16-second clip, gaining traction with over 213,000 views.

The video shows the ‘expectation’ of a fantastic cromboloni compared to the ‘reality’ of a not-so-great one bought for RM17.

In the clip, viewers witness the stark contrast: an expertly prepared pistachio Cromboloni dripping in delicious pistachio filling versus a messy reality where the filling is haphazardly poured over and inside the pastry.

The video ends with a shot of the Cromboloni, filling spilling over, highlighting the disparity between expectation and reality.

‘Like roti bom and roti canai’

Speaking to WeirdKaya, preferring to be called Niaa, she shared that the incident took place at Asian Food Festival, Lotus Seremban Jaya.

When asked about the texture and the taste of the cromboloni, she likened it to ‘roti bom’ or ‘roti canai’. Not hard but soft.

“It’s soft like ‘roti bom,’ and ‘roti canai’ but the texture was a bit off.”

Niaa mentioned that the pistachio sauce is ‘not bad’, but the main drawback was the texture of the cromboloni.
