There are times where we’d feel a little under the weather and would need to take time off from work to recuperate and rest.
However, not all employees are understanding of workers needing to step away from work to rest, just like how one woman found out for herself.
Fired for taking MC
In a Threads post, the woman put out a question for netizens to ponder on: “Has anyone ever gotten fired from their job for taking two days of MC (medical leave)?”
She then attached a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation she had with her employer, with the latter explaining why she was let go.
According to the employer, the company said it needed individuals “who were committed at work” as it had a packed production schedule.
It also said that the woman was let go so that they could give her position to a new hire and ease the production process.
After delivering the bitter news, the company thanked the woman for her contribution to the company.
This understandably left the woman confused, who wrote: “Aren’t workers entitled to medical leave as well?”
Reactions
In the comment section, netizens were enraged to see the woman being dismissed over what is largely seen as a basic worker’s right.
One said the company had broken labour laws by firing an employee who had produced a legit medical certificate issued by a doctor.
Another urged the woman to file for PERKESO benefits and produce proof to the authorities that she was unlawfully fired from her job.
Another sarcastically commented that the company should consider hiring robots instead of human workers, adding that robots “don’t fall sick”.
