For all college and university students, getting and passing an internship is an important process as it determines whether they’ll be able to graduate as well as equip them with the necessary industry skills.
A woman took to social media to share how she wasn’t able to pass her internship all because she stood up to her boss who constantly made crude remarks about people’s body weight, including her own.
‘So what if I’m over 70kg?’
In a Threads post shared by @lyana.jasmin, she wrote that the boss of the workplace where she underwent her internship at had a penchant for body shaming people.
“He said I looked like I was over 70kg (I was 52kg). Then I asked, “Why are you interested in people’s weight?” He replied, “Tak boleh ke?” (Can’t I do so?)

Then I said, ‘Even if I was over 70kg, is that a problem? I can play football, do gymnastics, and I’m very athletic. What do you do? Walk around the park for 10 mins every week then post about it on WhatsApp status and call it a day.'”
In fact, Lyana’s outburst was so unexpected that her boss didn’t speak to her for two weeks straight.
M’sian woman fails internship after she calls out boss over body shaming
Just when Lyana thought that was the end of her boss’ body shaming antics, she was later told that she had failed her internship.
Reason? All because she called her boss out for body shaming her and several other employees, who also shared in her intense dislike for him.

Fortunately for Lyana, she had her excellent work track record to fall back on and sent all evidence of it to her lecturer via email and asked whether she could switch to a different company as she found the work environment to be “toxic”.
Thankfully, her lecturer told her that her internship wouldn’t be counted into her final grade, meaning that her unfair dismissal would have no negative effect.
Netizens offer support
Netizens were enraged upon hearing Lyana’s experience and sent her their support over the unfortunate incident. Many also slammed her boss for his unprofessional behaviour.
‘You don’t deserved to be body shamed by your employer. And if you failed (internship), as long as you have a solid proof of his misdeeds, you are not to be blamed at all.’

‘A guy commenting about a girl’s weight is creepy. Doesn’t he know about boundaries?’

One netizen shared about how he quit his job after enduring relentless verbal abuse from his boss.
