M’sian Woman Earns RM11K Monthly Picking Tomatoes In New Zealand While On Work Holiday Visa

Nice.
Many of us fantasise about travelling or working overseas while earning lots of money. What if we told you that this is actually possible?

Meet Kay, a Malaysian woman who became a tomato picker in New Zealand while on a work holiday visa and is making more money than any of us could achieve in a short period of time.

Working 9 hours a day, 5 days a week, she’s raking in around 4,086 NZD monthly, which translates to roughly RM11,364. However, it must be noted that this amount doesn’t include taxes or the 8% holiday pay.

Speaking to Weirdkaya, Kay revealed she stumbled upon the work holiday visa through an acquaintance on Facebook.

“I figured that it wouldn’t hurt to try it out and I’m glad I did. It has given me the freedom to work and explore New Zealand for six months, or even nine months if I opted for horticulture and viticulture work

“Another reason why I became a tomato picker in New Zealand was due to the money as I believe it’s good to have proper funds in a foreign land. Even though the earnings may seem substantial, they’re just right for me to sustain my lifestyle,” she shared.

When asked about her tomato picking experience, Kay said it was quite “flexible and bearable” as she didn’t have to bend too long or lift heavy objects.

Most of all, she deeply appreciates the fact that she’s free to move around while working, which has benefitted her muscles and overall comfort.

“I also love the fact that there’s such a diverse number of people on work holiday visas. Meeting and spending time with those from all walks of life has added a unique flavour to my experience, making it all the more worthwhile.

Despite being criticised by fellow Malaysians for being an ‘illegal worker’ during my time in New Zealand, I’ll still encourage others to get out of their comfort zones and try something new.

“Doing something like this will broaden one’s perspective and connections and the work holiday visa can be granted to anyone aged 18 to 30 who is looking to work and travel throughout New Zealand for six months,” she said.
