M’sian Woman Claims She Is A Lecturer & Doctor, Ex-Husband Reveals She Faked Her PhD & Medical Credentials

"It’s unbelievable that someone without any healthcare background could claim such a role."
Lies in marriage can seriously damage the trust and respect that hold a relationship together. When deceit sneaks in, it can not only weaken the bond between partners but also have big impacts on their personal and professional lives.

Such was the case for a businessman from Perak, who recently uncovered a staggering deception involving his ex-wife, revealing an elaborate fraud that went beyond mere personal betrayal.

Putra, 38, recently uncovered that his ex-wife, who had been using the names Dr. Shaz or Dr. Khan, had misled not only him but also their entire family and several acquaintances.

The truth began to surface when he noticed a substantial withdrawal of RM38,000 from his company on June 20, which led him to question her professional claims.

“The whole situation seemed odd. Why would she need to take such a significant amount from the company if she was earning over RM11,000 a month as a lecturer at the University of Malaya (UM)?” Putra said.

This inconsistency set off alarm bells and prompted him to investigate further.

She actually had withdrawn from PhD program

Taking matters into his own hands, Putra checked with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and discovered that Shaz had actually withdrawn from her PhD program in 2020, contrary to her claims of ongoing studies, reported Majoriti.

Additionally, the RM200,000 grant she claimed to have received was nonexistent.

“I was stunned when I found out that her claims of completing a PhD were false. The grant she talked about wasn’t real either,” Putra revealed.

The appointment letter was a forgery

Further investigation revealed even more fraud. The letter Shaz had presented as proof of her appointment as a DS51 grade lecturer was found to be a forgery.

Putra’s visit to UM’s Faculty of Medicine confirmed that the letter’s signatures and letterhead did not match the university’s official documents.

“I presented the letter at UM’s Faculty of Medicine, and they confirmed that both the signature and the letterhead were forgeries,” Putra explained.

Shaz’s deceit stretched over several years, during which she maintained a facade of academic progress.

Despite having ceased her studies in 2020, she continued to pretend to be engaged in her PhD program and even sought permission to stay with her family in Penang under the guise of academic work.

“We were in a long-distance marriage because she claimed she was focusing on her PhD online. I stayed in Perak for business, while she and our children lived with her former in-laws in Penang,” Putra recounted.

Shaz’s parents had placed great importance on education, and before their marriage in 2010, Putra had agreed to support her academic aspirations. She completed her Bachelor’s in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics at UPM.

However, the promise of a PhD and the associated scholarship were fraudulent.

“She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s, but the PhD program and the scholarship she claimed were false. She had actually stopped studying in 2020,” Putra said.

The deception did not end there. Shaz also claimed to work at a government hospital in Penang, where she gave medical advice despite lacking any medical training or credentials.

“She even said she was working at a government hospital and giving medical advice. It’s unbelievable that someone without any healthcare background could claim such a role,” Putra lamented.
