An ex-factory worker in Penang was fined RM500 by the Balik Pulau magistrates’ court yesterday (Aug 20) for strangling a colleague who was working at a snail’s pace.
Siti Fadzhlina Bazheer Ahamed entered a guilty plea to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to Anis Fari Syuhaili Johari when it was read to her before magistrate Chia Huey Ting, reported NST.
Angered by slow work
According to the charge sheet, Siti Fadzhlina was accused of strangling Anis Fari around the neck at Abbott Medical Device Sdn Bhd, Plot 102, Hala Kampung Jawa, at 12.30pm on July 26.
Facts of the case stated that Siti Fadzhlina had confronted Anis Fari after seeing her using a mobile phone while working, which allegedly led to goods taking a longer time to arrive.
Not long after Siti Fadzhlina wrapped her hands around Anis Fari’s neck and choked her, a police report was immediately lodged, leading to her arrest.
‘It could’ve been murder’
Siti Fadzhlina was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
Before sentencing, Chia asked whether Siti Fadzhlina was aware of the severity of her actions.
You strangled her because she was slow at work. Do you know she could have died? You could have killed her? This could have been murder?
“If indeed she was slow, you should have informed her supervisor about the delay instead of confronting her,” the magistrate said.
In response, Siti Fadzhlina said she regretted her actions and apologised, adding she was fired from her job due to the incident.
Siti Fadzhlina’s lawyer told the court that his client was single and supported her mother. He also requested for a minimal fine to be imposed.
Siti Fadzhlina was eventually fined RM500 in default of 14 days in jail.
