A Kelantan woman’s attempt to sell food to Muslims skipping fast during the Ramadan period was foiled by authorities last Sunday (Mar 26).
The incident occurred during a raid carried by the Bachok Islamic Religious Office and Bachok District Council between 10am and noon, reported NST.
Hid food inside washing machine and toilet
During the raid, authorities seized more than 20 packets of rice with chicken which were hidden inside a washing machine.
They also discovered a plastic colander brimming with marinated chicken placed next to the washing machine inside the toilet.
Aside from that, several packets of teh o ais (iced tea) were also found inside the woman’s bedroom.
Sold food and drinks secretly
Speaking to Harian Metro, Bachok Islamic Religious Office officer Suratemi Mat Yusof said the woman, who was in her 40s, confessed that she had been selling food and drinks to Muslims who weren’t fasting straight from her house.
She told us that her ‘customers’ would contact her whenever they wanted the food and she would pack it for them accordingly.
“We advised her not to sell food and drinks to Muslims who weren’t fasting and she promised not to do it again,” he said, adding that she was given a warning and would be sent for counselling.
Suratemi said no arrests were made as the woman’s ‘customers’ fled after they caught wind of the raid.
He also called upon Muslims to not consume any food or drinks at public places and to respect those who were fasting.
