If you’ve ever driven during the festive season, you know the struggle—bumper-to-bumper traffic, the never-ending search for shortcuts, and the occasional driver who thinks they own the road.
It’s frustrating enough when people misuse emergency lanes, but what if the lane they’re using is actually meant to help with traffic?
That’s exactly what happened when a Malaysian woman recently took to social media to call out “rule-breakers,” only for netizens to point out that she might have jumped the gun.
Mistaken identity: emergency lane or smart lane?

In a video posted on TikTok, the woman is seen driving in the left lane, recording several cars she believed were illegally using the emergency lane. Clearly frustrated, she vents:
Look, so many cars are using the emergency lane! Oi, this is all the emergency lane! More cars, more cars (passing through the Smart Lane).”
She even urged authorities to take action, thinking these drivers were breaking the law.
But as the video made rounds online, netizens quickly noticed something she hadn’t—there was a signboard in the background clearly stating that the lane was a Smart Lane, which is actually legal for use during peak hours.

Netizens set the record straight
Instead of backing her up, netizens wasted no time correcting her.
“Sis, check the signboard before complaining,” one user pointed out.
Others explained that Smart Lanes are activated during specific hours—typically from 8 AM to 10 PM on Fridays, weekends, and public holidays—to help ease congestion.
In fact, many who have used the Smart Lane before said they’ve been honked at by drivers who didn’t know it was allowed.
“Some people just don’t read signs. Then, they honk at others who are actually following the rules,” another user commented.
