M’sian Woman Buys RM10 Ayam Gunting, Shocked To Find More Batter Than Chicken

Ayam gunting? More like ayam hiding.
There are few things more disappointing than buying food with high hopes, only to open it and realise it looks nothing like what you expected.

Recently, a Threads post went viral after a woman shared photos of what appeared to be an ayam gunting snack that she claimed had very little chicken inside.

The post has since sparked a heated discussion online, with many netizens calling out the seller and questioning whether it was really worth RM10.

‘Are you selling ayam gunting or tepung gunting?

In the viral post, @nanie_azman shared photos of the fried snack, showing what looked like a thin layer of chicken sandwiched between a thick coating of crispy batter.

Are you selling ayam gunting or tepung gunting? Please do business honestly”, she wrote.

From the photos, the snack appeared to have a large amount of fried coating, while the actual chicken portion looked rather thin.

Netizens were not impressed

Many netizens were quick to react, with several saying that sellers should be honest when preparing food for customers.

One user commented that some traders later wonder why their business does not make much profit or attract customers, when customers may feel cheated by the product they receive.

Another user pointed out that for RM10, customers could probably get two pieces of fried chicken elsewhere, which would be more filling and have more protein.

Another netizen said Taiwan-style fried chicken is usually meant to be big, crispy and juicy.

The user explained that in Taiwan, the chicken is often served whole and not cut up, allowing customers to bite into both the crispy coating and juicy chicken.

A photo of Taiwan-style fried chicken was also shared in the replies for comparison, showing a much thicker and larger piece of chicken.

As the thread continued gaining attention, some netizens also joked about the appearance of the food.

One user asked whether it was “getah skrap”, while another jokingly said they would have thrown it back if they received something like that.

Some comments were harsher, with netizens saying that food sellers who cut corners may lose customers’ trust over time.
