When you live alone, grocery shopping can be quite unique – you tend to buy only what you need, no matter how unusual it might look to others.
Recently, a Malaysian woman took this concept to the next level by purchasing just one single onion for her meal, leaving both the cashier and customers at the shop utterly stunned.

This quirky story was shared by the woman, who goes by @littleediaryy on TikTok, where her short clip instantly caught the attention of netizens.
“My money, my life!”
In the video, she’s seen handing over her single onion—complete with a price tag—to the cashier.
The cashier scanned it, and she paid with coins, clearly bemused by the situation.

Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the woman explained the hilarious backstory behind her purchase:
I planned to cook Daging Masak Kicap by Khairul Aming, and the recipe needed that one onion. I have this habit of buying only what I need for one specific meal—no extras. Even prawns, I count and buy just 10 pieces per time!”
She added that as a working woman who rarely cooks at home, buying ingredients in bulk would only lead to food wastage.
“I stopped by the Aceh shop to grab just one onion. The staff shook his head, but honestly, who cares? It’s my money, my life! HAHAHA. But yes, people behind me did look at me strangely.” she told us.
What do you think about her “one onion only” rule? Have you done something similar while grocery shopping? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
