In yet another case involving the infamous tube slide located at Changi Airport’s Terminal 4, a Malaysian woman was left with a lot more than just a ride she won’t forget.
This is because she was found to have broken not one, but two bones in her right leg after riding down the slide on Monday (Nov 4), an unfortunate incident which she shared on Xiaohongshu (XHS).
Tried out slide at Changi Airport
Speaking to Mothership, the woman known as Z said she and her friends were waiting for their flight back to Malaysia after spending three days in Singapore.
As they still had time to spare, they decided to try out the slide for themselves after hearing numerous positive reviews about it on social media.
During the first slide, Z said that it was very fun but noticed that the slide’s turns were rather dangerous while she was coming down at high speeds, adding that her calves were stuck to the sides due to friction.
Thinking that her skirt was causing the friction rather than the soles of her new running shoes, Z told her friends that she would “secure her skirt with her hands” and refrain from taking her phone with her just to be on the safe side.
Trouble ensues during 2nd ride
However, nothing could have prepared Z for what laid ahead for her when she went down the slide for the second time.
As seen from the XHS video, a loud thud could be heard when Z’s right calf banged the side of the slide, a moment which she described as “her leg and her body going in different directions”.
She told Mothership that she later realised the anti-slip soles of her new shoes had caused her legs to get stuck on the slide while her body was still descending at a high speed.
Upon reaching the end of the slide, Z began crying out for help but her friends only rushed to her side when they saw that she was unable to stand on her own.
Rushed to the hospital
For the next 15 minutes, Z had to endure the searing pain until her friend managed to find a staff to assist her.
Another staff arrived 15 minutes later and applied ice on Z’s leg, while a doctor turned up with painkillers after 15 minutes.
She was eventually sent to the Singapore General Hospital at 9.30pm, an hour after the mishap.
Left ‘severely injured’
In the clip, Z said that the accident had inflicted “severe” injuries on her, where she broke two bones in her right leg and would have to wait five to seven days for the swelling to lessen.
On top of that, she will have to undergo surgery, with doctors having to install steel plates and tighten screws on her leg. She also had to rely on painkillers and analgesic injections to soothe the pain.
According to Z, she had already incurred over S$560 (approx. RM1,850) in medical bills as of Nov 5, an amount which will only increase when she returns to Malaysia for surgery.
She added that she has since written to Changi Airport Group (CAG) via its feedback form online and is waiting for them to get back to her.
She also hopes her experience will make others more careful when riding down the slide.
