Having a bank account is a need for all in this modern era as it allows us to make payment without much hassle.
Unfortunately for one woman, her efforts to open one of her own ended in tears and disappointment after she was denied from doing so due to her being a housewife.

Was told she could open a bank account
In a 3-minute TikTok clip shared by a woman named Farhanah two days ago, she recounted how she was not allowed to have her own bank account despite being told previously that she could.

At the start of the clip, she began by saying that she had never been left this hurt and frustrated this badly throughout a year of being a housewife.
“I made my way to the bank today, and this isn’t the first time for me. I went there to confirm whether I could open a bank account despite being a housewife.
“The staff then told me that I could do so regardless of my status and all I had to do was to produce my husband’s payslip and a telephone bill or any phone-related document to verify my phone number,” she said tearfully.
Waited for 2 hours in vain
Brimming with hope, Farhanah said she then returned to the bank on another day with the requested documents.
To her shock, she was informed that she couldn’t open a bank account as she worked as a housewife.
I waited two hours, two hours I waited. But when it came to my turn, they said because of my status as a housewife, I cannot open a bank account.

This clearly left her crushed, and she couldn’t help but to burst into tears as she expressed her frustration over why didn’t the staff tell her from the beginning.
Farhanah also revealed that she had brought her children along with her to the bank and said she was deeply hurt by the incident.
“Even us housewives have our dignity. Why can’t you just tell me from the start that I can’t do it?” she cried.
Netizens express sympathy
The clip, which has since garnered more than 840,000 views at the time of writing, saw netizens offering advice and showing sympathy for Farhanah’s situation.

One netizen wrote that housewives weren’t the only ones facing the same issue as those who didn’t have a permanent job weren’t allowed to open a bank account too.

Others suggested that Farhanah try opening an account at another bank and lodge a complaint with Bank Negara.
