A single mother in Johor was left with bruises all over her body following a violent assault by her current boyfriend for simply keeping contact with her ex.
Fearing for the safety of her own and her young daughter, she held a press conference with the help of Johor Bersatu associate wing public complaints bureau chief Lim Thow Siang to recount her plight.
Beaten for 30 mins
Speaking to reporters, Peng Jiaxin (transliteration) said her boyfriend went into a fit of jealous rage upon finding out that she was still in contact with her former boyfriend.
As a result, he defamed her on social media by accusing her of treating men like “cash cows”, as well as subjecting her to become a target of online and sexual harassment.

Peng claimed that due to the false allegations, she was let go by the karaoke bar where she worked as a receptionist, leaving her unemployed.
Things escalated into violence when Peng and her boyfriend got into an argument regarding her ex at around 6am on Apr 24, where he allegedly beat her using a rattan cane for about half an hour.
“He threw a heavy suitcase at me and I had to block it with my left arm, which caused it to be badly bruised.

“He also grabbed my head and slammed it against the wall several times, leading to swelling and bruising on my forehead,” she claimed.
Maintained contact with ex for financial matters
Following the assault, Peng escaped with her eight year old daughter while her boyfriend was at work.
Unfortunately, it only led to more trouble as he proceeded to upload videos of the assault along with several posts on Facebook which accused her of exploiting men for money.
Peng’s boyfriend also leaked her Instagram account details, exposing her to online bullying and sexual harassment.

Addressing the reason why she was still in contact with her ex, Peng said it was solely to settle some financial matters.
“In fact, my current boyfriend depends on me financially and often borrows money for gambling.
I’ve lent him over RM10,000 in total and he still owes me about RM1,000 to RM2,000. But after I left, he said he wouldn’t repay the remaining amount.”
Continued to harrass her online
Peng added she lodged a police report on Apr 25 and her boyfriend was warned by the cops to delete the Facebook posts.
While he did delete the posts on Facebook, he reposted them on Telegram and threatened to do so every two weeks to make Peng’s life a living nightmare.

In one of the said posts, the boyfriend wrote that “some women deserved to be beaten” and that he regretted “not hitting her (Peng) harder”.
Police investigating
Lim, who was present at the press conference, called upon the police to take action against Peng’s boyfriend, saying that she had suffered much harm due to online abuse and sexual harrassment.

Meanwhile, Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police are investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing voluntary hurt and are currently tracking down Peng’s boyfriend.
