M’sian Uncle Dressed In Sarong Waves Wooden Stick At Mat Rempits On 1st Day Of Raya

Savage.
Illegal racers, or mat rempits as they’re commonly known, are a nuisance to road users as they engage in dangerous stunts that put the lives of others as risk, including their own.

One middle-aged man decided to take matters into his own hands after a group of young mat rempits performed a string of stunts along a busy road of Terengganu.

Waved wooden sticks at mat rempits

In a 26-second video which has been making waves on social media, it showed a mat rempit placing his legs up near the handlebars as he raced down Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan in Kemaman, Terengganu.

Several others were also seen running the red light, forcing a white sedan to slow down to avoid a collision at the Geliga traffic light junction.

The footage then shifts towards a man dressed in a sarong and holding two wooden sticks, which apparently was his “weapon” of choice in an attempt to put an end to the mat rempits‘ activities.

As the man paced around the roadside while gripping onto the wooden sticks, he gestures towards the young motorcyclists, as if to dare them to ride at breakneck speed and continue in their dangerous behavior.

Police investigating

Not long after the video went viral, it soon caught the attention of police, who are now investigating the incident.

According to Kemaman district police chief Supt Hanyan Ramlan, he said the incident occurred at about 6.45pm on the first day of Raya (Apr 22).

He added that police are working to identify all the individuals involved to facilitate investigations, reported NST.

Hanyan also called upon the public not to take the law into their hands but to instead report similar incidents to the police.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
