For the Chinese community, Ching Ming is considered to be one of the most solemn and important occasions as it is the time where family members pay their respect and clean the tombstone of those who have passed on.
A group of Malaysians were recently called out for making a mockery of the occasion by filming themselves dancing on a tombstone.
M’sian trio dances on tombstone during Ching Ming
In a 16-second video posted by Ryan Shoo on Facebook on Sunday (Mar 31), it showed two young women and a man standing on a tombstone while preparing to groove to the music.
As soon as the chorus of Steady Gang’s ‘周星翅’ rang out, the trio immediately busted out their dance moves, including pumping their hands into the air and gyrating their hips while having wide smiles on their faces.
You’d think that someone would frown in disapproval or stop the trio from dancing but no one did and it seemed that everyone was enjoying the performance.
An older woman who was standing behind the trio and clad in the red shirt was even seen laughing at the dance.
‘Extremely disrespectful!’
The clip has since garnered 1.2 million views since it was first posted along with comments from netizens who were deeply displeased with the trio’s lack of respect for Ching Ming.
‘Young people nowadays don’t show any respect to their ancestors. This is too much.’
‘(They have gone) overboard. Dancing on the tombstone is being disrespectful to one’s ancestors.’
A netizen joked that a deceased relative was very happy to see the trio’s dance and would take them to the underworld to continue dancing for him.
Even if you wish to shoot a short dance video, please don’t do it on a relative’s tombstone or during a solemn occasion!
