Most assume that the job of traffic officers is to direct traffic and ensure that there isn’t a congestion on the road, but sometimes these officers would go the extra mile in doing something out of their job scope.
Two traffic officers in Johor Bahru (JB) went up and above their responsibility and took it upon themselves to fix a clogged drain which was causing a mini flood along a busy road.
M’sian traffic officers brave heavy rain to fix clogged drain
In a 15-second clip posted by Polis Daerah Johor Bahru Utara on Facebook, two traffic officers clad in bright vests working together to fix a clogged drain using a long wooden stick during heavy rain.
One of them is seen then getting to his knees and doing his best to allow the floodwater flow better by inserting the stick into the hole of the drain and pulling it back and forth repeatedly.
According to the caption, the clogged drain was located along Jalan Johor Bahru-Air Hitam and that it had caused water levels to surge, subsequently leading to a traffic congestion on Tuesday (Dec 5).
“Personnel from the Johor Bahru Utara District Police Headquarters then moved quickly to uncover the cause behind the flooding and took the initiative to clear the hole of a drain which was clogged,” read the caption.
Netizens praise officers’ efforts
In the comment section, grateful netizens commended the officers for fixing the clogged drain even though they weren’t required to do so.
Several netizens also slammed the municipal council for sleeping on the job and said that it ought to be ashamed to let the traffic police do their tasks for them.
Thank you for your hard work, Abang Polis!
