M’sian Tourists Accused Of Not Paying For RM204 Meal In Jakarta, But The Receipts Show Otherwise

The restaurant later apologised for the "miscommunication".
A local woman has taken to social media to warn Malaysians travelling overseas to always keep receipts of their expenses at all times.

This comes after a popular restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia accused her and several others of diner dashing during their visit.

Went to restaurant on May 13

According to a viral Threads post shared by Norain Mohd Yunus, she wrote that the group went to Restoran Pagi Sore on May 13 for a meal which cost IDR907,500 (approx. RM204) for nine dishes.

After the meal, the group continued with their itinerary, not knowing that this meal would come back to haunt them three days later.

Accused of diner dashing

On May 16, the group was travelling back to Jakarta from Bandung when the tour driver suddenly asked for the restaurant payment receipt as Pagi Sore’s management had publicly accused them of not paying for their meal.

This left Norain stunned and angered as she was sure that payment was already made via a credit card.

“We were really unhappy because we did pay. While eating, we even joked about leaving one by one and letting one friend pay for everything. But it’s not like all of us actually ran away without paying,” she added.

Hunted high and low for receipt

The group then began searching for the receipt to prove their innocence and took screenshots of the successful bank transaction before submitting it to their travel agent as initial proof of payment.

Thankfully, they were able to recover the original receipt after digging through their bags.

Norain expressed relief, saying that things would have been much worse if the receipt was lost or if the group paid the bill using cash.

The group’s travel agent also requested for an official apology from Pagi Sore to clear their names.

Restaurant apologises

Not long after, two Pagi Sore representatives released a video of them apologising to the group for the false accusation.

They added that it stemmed from a “misunderstanding” that was unintentional on their part and said they hoped the matter will be resolved amicably.

However, this didn’t sit well with Norain, who claimed the restaurant had targeted the group out of malice.

Why did we become their target? How could they accuse us just like that after three days? What was the real motive?”

She added that she doesn’t plan on returning to the restaurant in the future, she hopes that her post will remind others to always keep their receipts with them at all times.
