In a heartwarming display of dedication and creativity, a Malaysian teacher took on the task of transforming a drab and neglected classroom into a vibrant learning space, capturing the hearts of millions on TikTok.
The teacher, known as @mattakim89 on TikTok, documented the entire makeover process, showcasing a remarkable transition from chaos to charm.
For over a year and a half, the teacher has been educating students in subjects like Akidah, Akhlak, Al-Quran, and Hadith at this school.
Parents contributed funds
Initially overwhelmed by the state of the classroom, the teacher formed a WhatsApp group to gather funds from the students’ parents.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the teacher shared the project was split into two phases: the first phase, involving a repaint and refurbishing of the room, cost RM600, while the second phase for banners and additional touches amounted to RM350.
The fundraising for each phase was impressively completed in just about half an hour.
Teacher who goes the extra mile
The transformation involved repainting the walls in a lively blue, replacing a damaged door handle, and giving a fresh look to the bulletin boards.
The teacher took down various fixtures like the blackboard and TV to give the walls a complete makeover, even adding a small polished wooden shelf for teaching aids and plants, bringing a touch of green to the room.
New environment, happy students
He told WeirdKaya that the students’ reaction to their newly transformed classroom was a mix of excitement and joy.
“The students’ response was truly heartening. Some were thrilled, and as usual, there’s a certain joy that comes with experiencing a new environment,” the teacher shared.
The makeover, which only took the teacher two days to complete, has not only rejuvenated the classroom but also brought a renewed sense of pride and joy to the students and other teachers.
The TikTok videos of the transformation have gone viral, amassing over 5 million views, with netizens pouring in praise for the teacher’s initiative.
