Ensuring that food served to students are edible and safe to eat is the primary responsibility of the canteen operator as failing to do so can result in dire health consequences.
A netizen has recently taken to Facebook to claim that rotten food was given to students at a college in Negri Sembilan, causing many to suffer from food poisoning.
Rotten eggs were allegedly served at MARA college
According to the post shared by Amira Alia Faizul, she claimed that the rotten hard-boiled eggs were served to students at a MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Kuala Klawang, Negeri Sembilan.
In the photos accompanying the post, it showed that the eggs had long, black veins covering all over it.
In another equally shocking photo, it showed what appeared to be maggots crawling on a piece of meat.
Amira said this wasn’t the first time subpar or rotten food had been given to students despite the canteen operator’s promises to not let such incidents happen again.
“This caused many to suffer from food poisoning and they are Form 4 and Form 5 students who are sitting for crucial exams soon. Such incidents will not only make them unwell but also hinder their ability to study effectively,” she wrote.
Amira also called for the canteen operator’s license to be terminated and tagged Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in the post as well.
Mara chairman responds
Not long after the post went viral, Dr Asyraf released an official statement on his Facebook account, where he said he has requested for a full report from Mara’s management.
“Though I’m abroad, I have ordered the deputy director of Mara to investigate this immediately.
“If negligence is found to have taken place, Mara will take strict action, including terminating contracts as outlined in the rules and agreements set,” he said.
Dr Asyraf added that Mara will not go easy on canteen operators who do not take food preparation seriously.
Hopefully, such incidents will not repeat again and those who caused this negligence are held responsible.
