When the government rolled out the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) aid to 22 million Malaysians aged 18 and above on Aug 31, many recipients used it to stock up on groceries or donate to those in need.
But for one young woman in Bangi, it was the perfect kickstart for a small dessert business during her semester break.
Her mother, Farraheeda, shared on Threads that her daughter, who’s pursuing a Diploma in Pastry, decided to use the RM100 to buy ingredients like Marie biscuits, Milo, and milk, all under the eligible SARA category to make her signature Kek Batik Indulgence.

Usually, during long semester breaks, she works at bakeries to gain experience. But since this break is short, she chose to sell simple desserts instead,” she told Majoriti.
The proud mum said she only chipped in for the packaging while her daughter handled everything else, hoping to one day open her own café.
Before she could even make more batches, the kek batik indulgence was completely sold out.
Netizens flooded the comments section praising her creativity, calling it a “smart start” and an inspiration for others to use the aid wisely.
Some even shared how others had used SARA to start small businesses like nasi lemak stalls.
