A stray dog that recently went viral for “assisting” a traffic police officer at a busy intersection along Jalan Parlimen has been rescued and is undergoing treatment, with plans to put it up for adoption once it recovers.
The heartwarming moment first gained attention after a netizen, Intan Nurhanis, shared photos and videos of the canine on Threads.
The images showed a traffic police officer directing vehicles at a junction, while a stray dog sat calmly nearby as if accompanying the officer on duty.
Rescued after 3-day effort
According to a report by The Star, the dog has since been rescued by animal rescuer Shima and her team on Sunday night. They later named the dog “Chase”.
Shima said the rescue operation took three days, as the dog was initially wary of being handled.
He’s very smart, curious about everything, and friendly. He would come close to let us pet him, but he was afraid of leashes and would run away when he saw one. It took time for us to gain his trust,” she explained.
Diagnosed with tick fever
Following the rescue, Chase was brought for a veterinary check-up and was diagnosed with tick fever, a condition that requires immediate treatment. Recovery is expected to take about a month.
The veterinarian also estimated that Chase is around four to five years old, but noted that he is underweight for his age and has multiple wounds on his body.
For now, Chase is being cared for at Shima’s home, where he will continue receiving treatment.
He will also undergo neutering and vaccination before being made available for adoption.
Shima shared that the name “Chase” was inspired by a well-known police dog, a fitting tribute to the stray’s viral moment of appearing to “serve” alongside a traffic officer.
