Whenever you head over to a stall to have a meal, it’s normal to see several staff members present to be in charge of serving customers and collecting payment from them.
However, there’s this one stall at an undisclosed location in Malaysia where there are no staff present and customers are free to take as much food as they need and pay for it entirely on their own.
M’sian stall allows customers to buy and pay their own meal with no staff present
In a 40-second video shared by @_NazriH on X (formerly Twitter), it showed a man paying a visit to mixed rice stall where it had zero staff at the scene.
According to the voice narrating in the video background, the stall was different from the rest as it gave customers complete freedom in picking whatever dishes they wanted and packing it up for themselves.
As for making payments, customers are left to calculate the total cost by themselves and can pay either via a QR code or via cash by simply taking the change right out of a box placed at a table.
Inside the stall’s premise, there was a notice where it outlined the price of the dishes as well as the following instructions:
Self-service. Please do your own calculation and leave your payment in the container provided. If you’re unsure, please take a photo of your food and WhatsApp it to this number.
“Please note that there will not be staff members to pack the food and make the calculations. Payment can be made on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.”
Risky or noble act?
This unusual practice caused @_NazriH to be surprised, where he wrote in the caption that the stall entirely relied on the customers’ honesty and joked that the owner “was probably an introvert”.
Netizens also had much to say about it, with some praising the owners for coming up with such a method of operating the stall and teaching the public about honesty.
Meanwhile, a netizen suggested that the owner consider providing a machine for customers to key in the amount, make payment, and receive their change instantly so that they will not notice the cash collected inside the box, which may tempt some to steal.
