In a heartfelt midnight post on Facebook, Malaysia’s squash sensation, Low Wee Wern, has hung up her professional racket, marking the end of an illustrious two-decade career in the sport.

Low Wee Wern retires with a decorated career

At 33, Wee Wern’s decision to retire reflects on a journey filled with triumphs, challenges, and unwavering passion for squash.

Her career highlights include ascending to the top five in the Professional Squash Association Tour rankings—a feat only surpassed by Malaysian legend Datuk Nicol David—and clinching team gold medals at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and the 2014 Games in Incheon.

“Every journey has its endpoint, and what an adventure mine has been,” Wee Wern shared, expressing her gratitude towards her support system, including her team, sponsors, and the squash community that rallied behind her.

Despite closing this chapter, Wee Wern’s enthusiasm for the sport and her desire to inspire remain undiminished.

“This is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter, one where I continue to motivate and inspire with the same zeal,” she added, looking forward to exploring new opportunities.

The announcement comes after Wee Wern, previously ranked fifth in the world, hinted at retirement following struggles to regain her top form after a severe injury to her left anterior cruciate ligament.
