A simple act of kindness by two young siblings in Terengganu has captured national attention after it touched Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s heart.
The children, aged 10 and 8, had handed over their own duit raya to Anwar during a brief encounter, not expecting anything in return.
According to reports, the siblings were travelling with their mother when they spotted a convoy believed to be carrying Anwar on the way to Sultan Mahmud Airport.
Excited at the possibility of meeting him, their mother decided to drive to the airport in hopes of making it happen.
They reportedly waited for nearly an hour before finally getting the chance to meet the Prime Minister as he was heading towards his official aircraft.
Gave RM7 from their own pocket money
When they saw him, both siblings mustered the courage to call out to him and handed over duit raya they had prepared.
The total amount was RM7, RM5 from Aesha and RM2 from her younger brother, which came from their own school allowance.
The gesture, though small in value, left a deep impression on Anwar, who later described it as something that “truly touched his heart” in a Facebook post.
PM responds with gifts and a message
The following day, the siblings received a surprise in return.
On behalf of the Prime Minister, officials delivered duit raya, iPads, school supplies, and a copy of the Quran to the family at their home in Kampung Paya, Kuala Terengganu.
Anwar also shared that the gifts were not merely rewards, but a way to encourage the children to continue pursuing knowledge and building a better future.
While the amount given by the siblings may have been small, their sincerity resonated widely.
The story has since gone viral, with many netizens praising the children’s upbringing and the meaningful exchange between them and the country’s leader.
