National Sports Award Programme

Reported by Sin Chew Daily, under Malaysia’s National Sports Award Programme (SHAKAM), athletes are recognised equally for their achievements at both the Olympics and the Paralympics.

According to this programme, gold medalists receive RM1 million, silver medalists RM300,000, and bronze medalists RM100,000.

Cheah’s gold medal win ensures he will be receiving the highest reward offered by the programme.

In addition to the generous monetary award, athletes who secure medals at the Olympics or Paralympics are eligible for a lifetime monthly allowance under the Olympic Fixed Salary Scheme.

This scheme grants gold medalists RM5,000 per month, silver medalists RM3,000 per month, and bronze medalists RM2,000 per month.

Cheah Liek Ho will be enjoying this ongoing support as a gold medalist, further recognising his dedication and excellence in the sport.
