A 13-year-old student at a religious educational institution in Kuala Lumpur was allegedly bullied by several other students, with incidents that included being blindfolded, force fed and harassed.
The student later experienced chest pains and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The victim’s mother said her daughter, who had only recently enrolled in the institution, had repeatedly complained about being bullied in the hostel.
Mother says bullying happened multiple times
According to the mother, her daughter’s problems began shortly after admission. She claimed the teenager’s glasses were once stepped on and broken by a 10-year-old student.
Kosmo! also reported that the girl allegedly faced pushing, shoving and name calling by hostel mates.
My intention was to place her there to learn religious values since I am a mualaf. I did not expect her to go through so much suffering. I never imagined that she would end up in the ICU in such a short time,” she said.
Student collapses after chest pain and is rushed to hospital
On October 8, the mother received a call from a ustazah who also served as a hostel warden, informing her that her daughter was unwell.
The teenager was first brought to Klinik Kesihatan Batu Muda before being referred to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), where she was admitted to the ICU.
The mother said her daughter has a pre-existing heart condition. However, she stated that the girl had not experienced serious complications for years until this incident.
I cannot accept the institution blaming everything on her heart condition. There must have been something that triggered it. I believe something happened in that hostel,” she said.
Mother alleges blindfolding and force feeding incident
The mother added that her daughter told her about an incident two days earlier, where a group of students dragged her into a bathroom, blindfolded her and force fed her.
The teenager also claimed that she was touched inappropriately by another student.
While the girl was receiving treatment in HKL, hospital staff also showed the mother the words “gi mampus” written on her daughter’s hand in blue marker ink.
The mother said the institution had only moved her daughter to a different dorm as a response, but claimed the bullying continued.
Police report filed, investigation ongoing
A police report was lodged on October 9 at the Sentul District Police Headquarters after the hospital advised further investigation.
The mother has since withdrawn her daughter from the institution.
Too many things happened in a short time, and it feels like the hostel and school are avoiding responsibility. I want justice for my daughter,” she said.
“Since she was discharged from the hospital last Saturday, she has been with me and I want her to recover, but at the same time, I do not want the perpetrators to walk away freely,” the mother said.
