A Malaysian husband probably underestimated just how supportive netizens could be after jokingly promising to buy his wife a pink Proton e.MAS 5 if his post received 35,000 likes.
Not only did Malaysians accept the challenge, they reportedly helped him reach the target within just 24 hours.
And yes, he actually kept his promise.
She originally wanted a scooter
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the husband, Remy Othman, said his wife had initially asked for a scooter as it would make picking up their children from school more convenient.
However, while he was at work one day, she jokingly sent him a picture of the pink Proton e.MAS 5 and asked if she could have the “budak pink”.
Playing along with her request, Remy Othman replied that he would buy it for her if his post managed to get 35,000 likes.
Netizens understood the assignment
Remy Othman later shared their conversation on Threads, joking that his wife should have just asked for a scooter instead.
But Malaysians apparently had other plans. Within 24 hours, the post had exceeded the 35,000-like target.
As of writing, the post has garnered more than a million views and around 98.9k likes.
Several netizens even openly encouraged others to help his wife secure the car.
Don’t worry sis, I support you! I added one like. Go go e.MAS 5!” one netizen wrote.
Another joked that the husband had made a big mistake by setting the target at only 35,000 likes because Malaysians were “very supportive”.
One commenter also said they had contributed a like just to see the wife smiling happily, before wishing the couple continued blessings.
A dream come true
After the post reached its target, his wife wasted no time reminding him about the promise.
In a follow-up conversation shared online, she cheekily pointed out that the post had already hit 35,000 likes, prompting him to joke about the “power of women”.
But what she did not know was that her husband was actually going to follow through.
He confirmed to WeirdKaya that he surprised his wife with the Proton e.MAS 5 last Sunday.
According to him, she burst into tears when she realised what was happening at the Proton showroom.
In his latest post on Threads, he jokingly wrote, “She was the one who asked for it, but when I gave it to her, she cried.”
He also thanked everyone who liked the post and sent their well wishes to the couple.
Thank you to everyone who gave a like and prayed for us. May those prayers return to all of you too,” he wrote.
