A Malaysian woman says a holiday with her close friend ended up costing her more than just money after the trip allegedly exposed the true nature of their friendship.
In an anonymous post shared on Facebook page Viralcham, the woman revealed that a 4-day, 3-night trip to Sabah last year caused her to drift apart from a friend she was once very close to.
Paid upfront for expenses during trip
According to her, the pair had coordinated their schedules and agreed to travel together, with the woman taking charge of booking the flights and accommodation.
As she was the one handling the arrangements, she paid for everything upfront first, with the total amount reportedly exceeding RM3,000.

Her friend had allegedly agreed that they would settle the expenses together after the trip. However, the payments did not stop there.
On the first night, the pair went for a seafood dinner where her friend reportedly ordered multiple dishes, but she once again ended up footing the bill.
When she casually asked whether they should settle that portion first, her friend allegedly brushed it off and said they could calculate everything later.
“She calls me calculative”
The following day, the two went diving, after which her friend reportedly decided to rent a premium camera for filming purposes.
Without much thought, the woman paid for it upfront again.
But by the third day, after realising she had already covered a substantial amount, she finally asked her friend if she could repay some of the earlier expenses first.

To her surprise, the friend allegedly became upset instead of paying her back.
According to the woman, her friend accused her of being too calculative and claimed the amount involved was merely “small money.”
The friend also allegedly questioned why she was being so petty over money between friends.
I suddenly felt like the person in front of me was a stranger. I didn’t understand how she became like this.”
Friendship faded after the trip
Following the trip, the woman said their friendship gradually became distant and they no longer kept in touch as closely as before.
Looking back, she said she eventually realised that perhaps in her friend’s eyes, her generosity had simply been taken for granted.
The experience left her with one painful takeaway:
Sometimes, all it takes is one trip to truly see someone for who they are.”
