Trying a new dish for the first time can either leave you impressed or wondering whether what arrived was what you actually ordered.
For one diner, his first experience with Beef Wellington unfortunately fell into the second category.
A Threads user, @arief_saiber recently shared his disappointment after ordering a RM68.90 Beef Wellington at a restaurant in Putrajaya, only to find that the beef inside looked completely cooked through.
‘Expectation vs reality’
In his post, the diner shared a screenshot of the Beef Wellington shown on the restaurant’s ordering platform.
The menu photo featured golden pastry wrapped around a thick piece of beef with a noticeably pink centre, accompanied by sauce.
However, the dish that arrived at his table looked quite different.
Photos showed the Beef Wellington cut open, revealing beef that appeared brown throughout with barely any pink visible.
As it was his first time ordering the dish, he jokingly added that he “didn’t ask for my beef to be cooked congratulations”.
Didn’t complain as he didn’t want to spoil family dinner
Speaking to WeirdKaya, the diner, Arief said the incident happened while he was having dinner with his family in Putrajaya.
Despite being disappointed with the dish, he chose not to raise the matter with the restaurant staff.
“I did not since it’s just a family dinner and I don’t wanna spoil the mood,” he said.
As for the food itself, he said the beef was “kind of bad” and described it as chewy, although he felt the mushroom component tasted fine.
He also revealed that he still managed to eat most of the Beef Wellington despite his disappointment.
Netizens debate Beef Wellington’s doneness
His post later sparked a discussion among Threads users over how Beef Wellington should be served.
One commenter pointed out that customers generally do not get to request their preferred doneness for Beef Wellington.
The diner agreed, but questioned whether he should still have been satisfied with what was served.
Another commenter claimed Beef Wellington is traditionally served medium rare and felt that the pastry in the photos looked overcooked as well.
Others suggested that he should have returned the dish, with one commenter calling it the “worst Beef Wellington” they had seen.
Meanwhile, one netizen jokingly renamed the dish as “Beef welldoneington.”
