After years of dating under the radar, Malaysian badminton player Ong Yew Sin has officially put a ring on it — and his fiancée is none other than retired Japanese shuttler Ohori Aya.
Their relationship had been an open secret among badminton fans, but the couple never publicly confirmed it until now.
A proposal straight out of a J-drama
Today, Ong took to Instagram to announce that Ohori said “yes” during a dreamy proposal surrounded by flowers, white balloons, and a glowing “Marry Me” sign. The 30-year-old wrote:
She said yes. We couldn’t be more happier to share this with the world.”
He also reflected on their cross-cultural relationship:
“Different nationality, different culture, different living style. We learn to adapt and accept each other’s living style & understand each other’s culture throughout the years…(we still quarrel always.)”
Many badminton icons and industry figures flooded the comments section to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
Ohori, 28, retired from badminton at the end of 2023 after clinching bronze in the women’s singles at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Looks like their love story has officially smashed into the next set. Congrats to the happy couple! 🥹❤️
