M’sian Offers To Pay For Chinese Tourist Who Didn’t Have Enough Ringgit Notes For His Nasi Lemak Order

Heartwarming.
A Chinese tourist’s first attempt at trying the iconic nasi lemak took an unexpected but heartwarming turn thanks to a kind Malaysian family who stepped in to help when he struggled with payment and communication.

The video, posted by TikTok user @mamaadamialuth, shows the tourist approaching her young daughter to ask for the price of the nasi lemak.

The girl, who spoke in Mandarin, told him it cost RM15.

Amount was too large

The man then converted the amount on the spot, estimating it to be 25 yuan before pulling out a 100 yuan note (approximately RM58.46) to pay for his meal.

However, the nasi lemak vendor hesitated to accept it, explaining that the amount was too large and asking if he had smaller Ringgit notes.

Seeing the confusion unfold and realising the tourist likely only had Chinese Yuan on him, a customer stepped in and said:

It’s okay, I’ll pay for you. Just take it as me treating you.”

The tourist initially refused the offer, but after the family insisted, they paid for his nasi lemak.

Wanting to reciprocate the gesture, the tourist took out 25 yuan from his wallet and handed it to the customer as a token of appreciation.

In the caption, the OP mentioned that even though her daughter is fluent in Mandarin, she still had difficulty understanding the man’s accent, making the situation slightly more confusing at first.

Yet, the small moment of misunderstanding quickly turned into a wholesome encounter that highlighted Malaysians’ warmth towards visitors.
