The recent unveiling of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTM) sleeper coach interiors has sparked a wave of criticism from netizens across social media platforms.
Facebook user Eddie Putera, among the many voices, took to his account to express disappointment and question the choices made by the national commuter company’s design consultant.
‘Come on, bro. It’s already 2024’

“Who is the design consultant for KTM? Come on, bro, it’s already 2024, bro,” Putera exclaimed in a post accompanied by several images of the criticised interior.
He pointed out what he perceived as complacency, drawing attention to elements he found outdated and lacking in sophistication.
From budget store to sleeper coach
“This design is like what the new rich ladies would want in the 80s. The colour scheme is like the homestay of Cik Peah in Rombau,” Putera remarked, highlighting what he considered an antiquated aesthetic.

He didn’t hold back on critiquing even seemingly minor details, such as the design of the trash bin in the toilet, which he likened to something hastily procured from a budget store.
Sleeper coach or grandma’s house?
The discontent didn’t end with Putera’s post. Comments flooded in from various social media users, echoing similar sentiments and adding their own observations.
Some users drew parallels between the sleeper coach furnishings and items reminiscent of older generations’ homes, evoking a sense of nostalgia rather than modernity.

One commenter humorously remarked, “The sheet looks like my grandma’s when she first got married,” drawing attention to the perceived outdated nature of the bedding.

Another expressed a sentiment of disappointment, stating, “No class…Time is not important as long as you can have your healing moments.”

Criticism even extended to specific design choices, with one user stating, “They use the wallpaper from RM2 shop” implying that the materials used seemed low-quality or ill-suited for the intended purpose.

Another commenter humorously noted,”That’s a bridal bedsheet from the 90s. Where did they snatch it from?.”
