If there’s one thing that never changes concerning Asian mums, it would be their penchant to nag and lecture their children over the tiniest things (and in multiple languages too).
A woman experienced it firsthand albeit in an unusual and amusing manner when her mother used a robotic vacuum cleaner to scold her over several things.
M’sian mum ‘hijacks’ robot vacuum to lecture daughter
In the hilarious 1-minute and 16-second clip shared by content creator Lyanna Kea, we are given a heads-up of what’s to come in the in-text caption, which reads: “I got my mum a fancy robot vacuum, but now I’m regretting it.”
The clip starts with the robot vacuum making its way towards Lyanna when her mum’s voice is heard booming out of it, where she tells Lyanna to take the chicken out from the fridge.
However, the sentence is never finished as Lyanna’s mum sees a piece of clothing lying on the floor, causing the robot vacuum to turn towards it in a dramatic fashion.
And with that, Lyanna’s mum quickly switches to ‘Epic Asian Mum’ mode.
What is that?? Your shirt ah?? COME HERE AND PICK UP YOUR SHIRT NOW. Don’t simply just throw-throw-throw your shirt everywhere for other people to pick up. Your mother is not your maid, okay?!”
And just when Lyanna thought things couldn’t get any more frustrating, her mum’s lecturing continued on — this time on a box filled with items Lyanna claimed was for “recycling”.
“Another Amazon Amazon, Ebay Ebay…always buying all this nonsense! Shopping, shopping — I told you how many times already? Don’t simply shopping!
“Buy all these useless items, and then what? You think this is your hotel ah? I am your maid, is it? Ha?” her mum ranted in both English and Cantonese.
Lyanna’s mum then rounded things off with a threat all to familiar with Asian kids: “Luckily I’m not at home ah…if not I’ll come back and whack you kau-kau.”
‘Super relatable’
The clip has since garnered over 75,000 likes and netizens couldn’t help but laugh over how accurately it had described most Asian mums.
