A father experienced what was possibly the most unexpected and nerve-wrecking birth of his son after his wife gave birth right inside their Myvi.
Thankfully, all ended well following his son’s birth, where the newborn was found to be in good health despite his unannounced ‘arrival’.

Sharing the encounter with Harian Metro, Mohd Hafiz Hassan said he and his wife Associate Professor Dr Asiah Lokman were heading towards the Shah Alam Hospital on the Federal Highway at 7:20am on Sept 17 after his wife complained of stomach pains.
He added that although Asiah was due to give birth next month, neither of them expected the child to be born three weeks ahead of schedule.
“At that time, we were fortunate that the highway was not congested and the traffic was smooth; otherwise, I don’t know what would have happened, as the traffic on the Federal Highway is usually heavy every day, especially in the mornings.
While I was driving, I heard my wife, who was seated in the back passenger seat, repeatedly say ‘it hurts’ before suddenly hearing a baby cry. At that moment, I was truly panicked; I never expected my wife to give birth safely,” he said.
At that moment, Mohd Hafiz said he hesitated on whether he should continue driving or pull over. However, his wife urged him to head to the hospital and assured him that she was okay.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Asiah was sent to the emergency department with the baby still attached to the umbilical cord on her lap. Fortunately, both of them were found to be safe and healthy.
Mohd Hafiz added that the extraordinary birth of his youngest child “was the most special one” compared to his three other children and one that would forever be engraved in his mind.
“It was indeed nerve-wracking, but it will be a moment I cherish forever. I appreciate and honour my wife’s sacrifice in giving birth to our child, especially this extraordinary delivery,” he said.
