We often carry powerbanks with us whenever we go on a trip so that our handphones will remain functionable and fully charged all day. But did you know these devices are rather dangerous too?
A local man could only watch helplessly as his house burned away after a powerbank exploded, leading to a fire that destroyed a substantial portion of the building.
M’sian man’s powerbank explodes, house catches fire
In a TikTok video shared by a digital creator named Amad Zahry, it showed the upper floor of his house being engulfed in flames as firefighters worked to put the fire out.

According to the in-text caption, the fire was caused by a powerbank which exploded. Although Amad tried soak several cloths in water to put the fire out, he didn’t have enough time to do so as thick smoke quickly filled the room.
Fortunately, he managed to save his handphone from the blaze and quickly called the fire department. Additionally, no lives were lost in the incident.

Surveyed damage after the fire
After the fire was successfully put out, Amad went back to his house the next day to assess the damage incurred and to see what could be salvageable.
In one of the videos showing the fire’s aftermath, one of the gaming chairs in his studio room was completely destroyed and the floor was littered with smoldering debris.
The camera then panned upwards to reveal that the roof was also annihilated by the fire, where the ceiling fan was seen literally hanging on by a thread.

Despite the extensive damages inflicted, a number of electronic gadgets were relatively untouched by the fire thanks to them being stored inside a rack. Amad also found several pages of the al-Quran being spared from the flames too.

According to Amad, the amount of losses he sustained due to the fire was close to RM20,000.
Netizens express sympathy
In the comment section, many netizens felt sorry for Amad’s misfortune and comforted him by wishing him the best, with one telling Amad to contact him directly if he needed help.


Some also added that they immediately discarded their old or unused powerbanks after watching the clips as they feared setting their house on fire.
