He's now fighting for his life at the ICU.
In the pursuit of providing a better life for themselves and their family, thousands of Malaysians often travel to Singapore to work before returning home when the day’s over.

Unfortunately, there have been instances where these hardworking individuals have been caught in tragic accidents, leaving them physically handicapped or maimed.

M’sian man working in SG suffers severe head injury in accident

One such person was Ha Wee Chen, a Malaysian man hailing from Kedah who’s now fighting for his life at the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in Singapore.

According to a heart wrenching post on the fundraising platform Give.Asia by Ha’s cousin James, the young man had been travelling back and forth between Malaysia and Singapore for a year “to provide better financial support for his parents”.

On Aug 15, Ha was riding his motorcycle back to Malaysia when he got involved in an accident, which left him with severe brain bleeding due to a head injury.

The doctors had no choice but to perform an emergency craniotomy to relieve the pressure on his brain. Now, he lies unconscious in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), relying on machines and an oxygen tube to breathe.

“His condition remains heartbreakingly critical, and he has yet to pass the danger stage,” wrote James.

‘The financial burden is immense’

As Ha currently lies unconscious at the hospital, the hospital bills have also been racking up and have posed a huge financial burden to his family.

According to James, Ha’s medical bills amounted to S$39,000 (approx. RM130,600) after spending four days there and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.

“One night in the ICU costs $400 (approx. RM1,340) for treatment and $1,000 (approx. RM3,340) for the room, making the situation financially overwhelming for his family.

“Despite these mounting medical expenses, we cannot transfer him to another hospital or back to Malaysia due to his critical condition,” said James in the post.

In light of these crushing medical bills, Ha’s family is appealing to the public to donate in order to give Ha a chance to live.

Currently, a total of RM185,182 has been raised, which is still a long way from the RM785,030 target.
