After telling his family that he’d be out to try his luck at the lottery, a 65-year-old man proceeded to disappear without a trace, leaving his family worried.
The man was identified as Gong Wan Li (transliteration), who left his home on June 27 at around 1.30pm, reported Sin Chew Daily.
Went out to buy lottery tickets
Speaking to reporters, Gong’s sister said on the day of Gong’s disappearance, he just had lunch and told the family that he was heading to a lottery outlet in Taman Midah.
He was believed to have gone to that lottery outlet and headed to another outlet before going missing.
Gong’s sister said she went looking for Gong on the same day but had to call it off as her leg was in pain.
She and other family members later continued looking for Gong at various places but it yielded no results.
Suffers from dementia
Gong’s sister added that Gong has dementia and is a disabled individual who has long struggled with poor mental health and has a habit of drinking alcohol.
Given these factors, the family fears he may have become lost and is unable to find his way home.
Delayed police report
When the family lodged a police report on June 28, they were informed by police that someone reportedly saw Gong in the Taman Tenaga area of Bandar Tun Razak, where he was assisted by officers in crossing the road.
However, when Gong’s sister went there to search for him that night, he was nowhere to be found.
She also admitted that she filed the police report late as she mistakenly believed she needed to wait for more than 24 hours before reporting a person as missing.
Found near bank
Thankfully, Gong was eventually found by a member of the public near a bank in Bandar Sri Permaisuri, where he was seen barefoot and shirtless after someone allegedly stole his clothes and shoes.
He was also reported to be unhurt and was fed by kind-hearted individuals throughout the period he was missing.
Gong’s family later confirmed that he had reunited with them.
