In a recent TikTok uproar, a man aired his grievances over a coconut rice meal that set him back RM33, only to find it paled in comparison to street food stalls where the heftiest price barely touches RM10.
The video showcases the pricey meal—comprising not much more than a drumstick, some sambal, a sprinkle of veggies, and a few slices of ginger.
“If this were RM10, then I would definitely buy it,” the customer said.
The man argued that for what was on offer, RM10 should have been the ceiling price, not the staggering RM33 charged by the seller.
Netizens were shocked
Netizens quickly rallied to his cause, lamenting the meager portion size for such a steep price.
“The veggie is for decoration only bro.”
Some even jestingly suggested the seller was aiming to fund skyscraper projects with such profit margins, sparking a mix of laughter and disbelief online.
“I bought a raw drumstick at the fresh market for just RM1.80. Cooking rice with soy sauce and frying chicken, it doesn’t even cost RM5.00 a day. You just have to be diligent in cooking that’s all.”
