Teaching, in its most effective form, is not just about imparting knowledge but also about connecting with students in a way that makes learning enjoyable and memorable.
This universal truth of education shines brightly in a recent viral TikTok video from Johor, Malaysia, where language barriers are humorously and heartwarmingly bridged in an everyday workplace setting.
A marine repair worker from Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE), identified as Rafizi, has become an unlikely internet sensation.
His light-hearted method of teaching English alphabet pronunciation to a Bangladeshi colleague has captivated viewers, amassing over 305,000 views since its upload by TikTok user @aliffnazmii.
The viral video highlights Rafizi’s unique teaching style, which blends strictness with humor. In a standout moment, he introduces the letter ‘M’, which is amusingly mispronounced as ‘yem’ by his Bangladeshi co-worker.
The laughter continues when ‘I’ is confidently but incorrectly pronounced as ‘L’.
Rafizi is the funniest person
Speaking to WeirdKaya, uploader @aliffnazmii, who works alongside Rafizi in the marine repair department, offered more context.
Contrary to his stern appearance in the video, Rafizi is described as the department’s most humorous member.
“He may look fierce and angry in the video, but Rafizi is actually the funniest person in our department,” he revealed.
He also mentioned that the foreign worker, part of the support staff, has been making strides in his English pronunciation following the video’s release.
The video has struck a chord with many viewers, eliciting chuckles and reminiscent comments.
One person compared Rafizi’s teaching style to their father’s math lessons, while another humorously praised his ability to juggle a main job with part-time tutoring.
