Firefighters accompanied the ambulance to the hospital, where a hydraulic cutter was used under medical supervision to safely remove the rebar in his head measuring around two feet long (61cm),” he said.

The rescue operation was eventually brought to a close at 12.11pm.

Thankfully, doctors at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital were able to remove the steel bar from Azlan’s head without any major complications.

Azlan, who is currently recuperating at the hospital, told Berita Harian he was extremely grateful to survive such a harrowing accident and that his brain was spared from severe injury.

“Today, I am still able to talk and live like anyone else. The doctors told me I should make a full recovery as the rod missed my brain,” he said.

Azlan’s daughter told the Malay daily doctors are still monitoring her father’s condition for possible infections as it was the rebar was rusty.

She added if all tests come back clear, Azlan will be allowed to leave the hospital today or tomorrow (Mar 18).
