A dispute over a car being parked where it wasn’t supposed to led to a man being severely injured after he was attacked with a parang (machete) by a temple caretaker in Perak.
According to China Press, the altercation took place in front of the Sam Sean Temple in Kampung Kuala Kuang on Tuesday (Nov 26) at around 3pm.
M’sian man slashed with parang after refusing to move car
Speaking to the Chinese daily, the temple’s chairman Liu Xin Quan (transliteration) said he was informed that the argument stemmed from the victim’s refusal to move his car which he had parked at a restricted spot in front of the temple.
This then led to a verbal argument between the victim and the temple caretaker, culminating in the latter slashing the former with a parang.
Liu added that the injury sustained by the victim was so severe to the point where his bones could be seen. He was later rushed to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh and is now receiving treatment.
An emergency meeting is also expected to be held by the temple committee to discuss on how to address the situation.
Caretaker a person with a temper
Liu said that there were plenty of spots elsewhere for visitors to park their cars and reiterated that parking in front of the temple was prohibited, leading him to be puzzled over why the victim insisted on parking there.
When asked whether the parang was retrieved from the temple, Liu confirmed that the temple did keep bladed tools in order to carry out chores.
The caretaker is a hardworking individual but he has a temper. However, I’ve not spoken to him so I don’t know the full details of the incident.”
Oriental Daily reported that the caretaker was a person who had high hygiene standards and often cleaned the area in front of the temple.
The victim was also said to have dirtied the area, which prompted the caretaker to attack him.
The caretaker has since surrendered to the police and currently remains in custody.
