Malaysians and mamak restaurants go hand in hand, but what would be your reaction if you discover your go-to mamak spot has disgusting hygiene practices?
A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) has garnered attention from Malaysians after a netizen (@elyasyusrizal) shared several clips exposing a mamak restaurant’s dirty secret.
M’sian man shocked to see worker washing plates inside rubbish bin
In one of the videos, a worker is seen rinsing the plates inside one of the rubbish bins placed outside of the restaurant, which prompted the OP, Rizal, to have a closer look.
To his horror, he realised that the water inside the rubbish bin was far from clean. Instead, it was filled with dirt and leftovers and its colour had turned into bright orange after all of the washing.
When Rizal confronted the worker for the disgusting method, the latter didn’t seem to think it was an issue and defended himself by saying the water was to soak the dishes.
Needless to say, Rizal was shocked and angered by the worker’s reply. Although he initially did not want to expose the restaurant’s name, he provided subtle hints that it was located in Bandar Botanik, Klang.
He also alerted netizens residing near the area to be more mindful and to lodge a report if they came across such deplorable practices.
More disgusting acts exposed
In the comment section, some netizens were left queasy by the post while others claimed to have encountered more disgusting acts at the same place.
‘Last time I always had lunch here, hope it was not like this last time.’

‘It’s definitely dirty. Last time I always ate here, but when a friend told me that the worker peed and wiped (it) using his apron, I stopped going there.’
