M’sian Man Sent To Old Folks Home By His Own Brother After Suffering A Stroke 10 Years Ago

'I never expected him to do this to me.'
People often say that “blood is thicker than water”, but sometimes reality can prove that even those considered to be the closest to us can hurt us deeply too.

A man was left heartbroken after his elder brother sent him to an old folks home instead of caring for him after he suffered a stroke a decade ago.

Speaking to Harian Metro, the man, who only wanted to be known as Ali, said he suffered a stroke in 2014 and was subsequently sent to the Husna Arrashid Elderly Care Center in Setapak by his brother.

“Before being transferred here, I was placed at a nursing home in Sentul for four years. Initially, I never expected my brother to send me to an old folks home, but after having a stroke and being discharged from the hospital, I was immediately sent to Sentul.

I admit I was disappointed, but what could I do? My brother didn’t say anything, so I just stayed silent. Moreover, I’ve been living alone since divorcing my wife.

“If I were to think back, it’s truly sad to see that I’m staying at the old folks home instead of my family during my twilight years,” he said.

Still visited by his children

Despite the sad situation he was placed in, Ali conceded that he feels more well-cared for at the old folks home.

“My children know I’m here, and they have visited me. Every time they come, they bring food. They never said they want to invite me to live with them, but even if they did, I wouldn’t want to because I’m already comfortable here.

“I have many friends and the staff here take care of my meals, drinks, and medication. Since I have a stroke, they help me a lot with my movement,” he added.
