Every year during Ramadan, many stalls would be set up at bazaars all across the country by stall owners looking to earn money in order to provide for their families.
For some, it requires them to part with certain possessions that they hold close to their heart so that they have some cash to kickstart the business.
Man sells motorbike to start off business
One example of this was a couple who run a Ramadan bazaar stall in Taman Seri Aman in Jitra, Kedah, where the husband had to make a huge sacrifice for the sake of the business.

In an interview with mStar, the man’s wife, Nurul Fariza Che Nu, said this year was the first time her husband had ventured into the bazaar business.
She added that since they didn’t want to rely on others for money to kickstart the business, her husband sold his motorbike to get the capital needed to set up the stall, which cost around RM2,000.
“He used to work as a seafood distributor, but was forced to look for alternative sources of income so that he could earn extra money and pay off the monthly commitments.

“As for the business, some days we would earn only RM100 and experience bad weather as well. There was one time where we opened the stall until nighttime in the midst of heavy rain but sales remained poor,” she said.
Husband falls sick for almost a week
Adding on the couple’s challenges was the man’s poor health, where the 40-year-old fell ill for a week after manning the bazaar stall for a few days.
“He had a high fever and rested at home. While he was sick, I managed the stall and was assisted by my cousin and aunt.

“The doctor later told me that he was infected with a virus but thankfully he recovered fully and has fully taken over the stall,” said Nurul.
Hopeful business will pick up soon
After seeing what her husband had gone through to ensure the business stayed open, Nurul admitted that she was saddened but touched by his efforts to provide for the family.
Although I’ve affected by what was happened, I’m still hoping that the business will continue to be stable so that we can pay our monthly commitments such as house and car payments, as well as the bills.

“My husband and I also hope that with the remaining days in the Ramadan month, we would be able to get better returns,” she said.
We hope Nurul and her husband’s business will continue to grow so that they’re able to celebrate Raya happily!
