M’sian Man Scars Cornea After He Rubbed His Eyes Too Frequently

However, Muhammad Zabidi’s story, shared in a heartfelt TikTok video, reminds us of how fragile our vision can be and the importance of taking care of our eyes.

The video starts with a heartfelt plea: “I hope you never go through what I did.”

This sets the stage for a tough journey filled with obstacles and remorse. Muhammad Zabidi talks about transplant caused by a scar from constantly rubbing his eyes.

Zabidi regrets his past choices, a feeling many can relate to – understanding the consequences only after experiencing them.

He speaks of frequent trips to the hospital and the solitude of the hospital ward, showing how tough his journey has been.

In the video, we see Zabidi surrendering to hope as he goes through surgery, trusting both the doctors and a higher power. He’s grateful once the surgery is over, but he knows there are still tough times ahead.

Speaking to WeirdKaya, Zabidi, 24, tells us about his journey, from why he used to rub his eyes to how his vision got worse over time. He’s open about his experiences, hoping others will learn from his story and take better care of their eyes.

“The operation took place at HUKM (Hospital Universiti Caunselor Tuanku Muhriz Kebangsaan Malaysia) a”

“Since I was a child, I liked rubbing my eyes because I have allergies. Sometimes I rub my eyes until they turn red.

I noticed my vision starting to blur at the age of 15. It got blurrier over time. By the time I was 21, there was already a scar on my cornea.”, he explained.

In term of surgery duration, Zabidi said:

“The doctor said the operation would last 4 hours, but I went in at 8:30 in the morning and only woke up again at 4:00 in the afternoon, so I’m not exactly sure how long it took.”

If you’re curious about the cost, Zabidi mentioned that it’s under RM15,000 since he’s still under monitoring.

When asked about his transplant experience, Zabidi explained, “The goal of the surgery was to remove the scarred part of my cornea and replace it with a new one. They used general anesthesia, so I didn’t feel any pain during the procedure.”

Regarding his current state, Zabidi mentioned, “Right now, my condition is stable, but my right eye still can’t open. The doctor said it might take 2 months for it to open, and it’ll be 2 years until I fully recover.”

As for the challenges, being from Melaka, Zabidi had to commute back and forth for his surgery, mainly relying on bus transportation.
