In a daring act of bravery, a Malaysian man didn’t hesitate to put his own life at risk to rescue woman who were nearly swept away inside a drain in Johor.

Reported by Harian Metro, Choo Ngiam Choong, a contractor in his 50s, swiftly jumped into action to rescue a woman swept away by a strong wave at Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing, near Kota Tinggi.
The incident occurred yesterday (Jan 7) when the vehicle carrying the 2 victims skidded and fell into a drain.

Choo, who was on his way from Kota Tinggi to Mawai, recounted the shocking moment when he saw his friend, driving on the same route, stopping the vehicle.
Upon investigation, Choo found a submerged car in the drain with a woman being carried away by the swift current.
“One woman (the victim’s friend) managed to save herself while the other woman was being swept away.” he said.
Choo immediately jumped into action

Without hesitation, Choo jumped in and reached the women within five seconds, preventing a potentially tragic outcome.

He expressed gratitude for his swimming skills and stamina, emphasizing the importance of valuing human life over material possessions, stating, “Money can still be earned, but if life is lost, there is no replacement.”
According to Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora, the incident involved a black Perodua Myvi that skidded into the drain, heading towards Kota Tinggi after losing control.
The driver escaped injury, while the passenger sustained minor injuries and received outpatient treatment at Kota Tinggi Hospital.
Big kudos to Choo Ngiam Choong for his heroic actions, exemplifying the spirit of selflessness and community care in times of need.
