A 27-year-old Malaysian man’s life took a miraculous turn when his father, a smoker of 40 years, quit the habit to donate his kidney and give his son a second chance at life.
Dr. Mohamad Zulkifli, a doctor at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II in Kelantan, was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2020 after experiencing persistent vomiting and dizziness.
“I started experiencing symptoms like vomiting and dizziness in 2020. Since then, I’ve had to undergo peritoneal dialysis four times a day, all while completing university and transitioning into my career,” he told WeirdKaya.

Quit 40 years of smoking habit
His father, Ayub Abdul Ghani, 61, couldn’t bear to see his son in pain any longer.
Ayub decided to donate his kidney despite being a smoker for four decades.
To qualify, he gradually reduced his smoking habit and finally quit entirely three months before the surgery.
“My father had been smoking for 40 years. When he decided to donate his kidney, he reduced his smoking bit by bit and managed to quit completely three months before the transplant,” said Dr. Zulkifli, emphasizing the lengths his father went to for him.
The transplant, performed recently at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, was a success. Ayub, ever humble about his sacrifice, said he wasn’t nervous about the procedure and only wanted the best for his son.
For Dr. Zulkifli, his father’s actions were nothing short of life-changing. The young doctor expressed his gratitude and shared a message of resilience: “Be patient and follow the advice of your doctors.”
