A clip showing a driver being threatened with a parang by a man while on the road in Johor has recently surfaced on social media.
The footage eventually caught the police’s attention, who sprang into action and arrested two suspects connected to the case.
Cut into lane out of the blue
In the clip, it showed a black Kia K5 vehicle swerving into the right lane without turning on the signal lights, causing the driver to screech to a stop to avoid a collision.
When both vehicles came to a stop, two men were seen stepping out from the Kia vehicle, with one of them brandishing a parang and gesturing aggressively at the driver.
As the man continued yelling at the driver and walked towards his direction while clutching onto the parang, the latter quickly reversed the car and drove off to prevent further escalation.
According to China Press, the driver was making his way to the Senai International Airport to drop off his wife and child before the altercation took place.
Police reveal reason behind fight
Kulai district police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the incident occurred at 5.50am yesterday, with the victim lodging a police report at 8.04am on the same day.
He said investigations revealed a total of four men were in the Kia vehicle when it cut into the right lane at a slow speed and nearly caused a collision.
This then caused the victim to repeatedly flash his high beams, prompting the Kia to overtake his vehicle before stopping abruptly in front of it on the flyover.
“One of the suspects then got out of the vehicle carrying a parang, shouted and ordered the victim to get out of the car.
“The suspect also swung the parang at the front bonnet of the victim’s car, causing the paint to peel off,” he said as quoted by Malay Mail.
Arrests made
Tan said officers from the intelligence and operations unit of the Kulai district police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) have nabbed two of the four men in Forest City at about 7.10pm the same day.
Police also seized a car key, a mobile phone, clothing, a black cap, a 30cm parang with a black handle and a black sheath believed to have been used in the incident.
Urine screening tests found that both suspects tested negative for drugs and police are working to establish the full circumstances of the confrontation and locate the other individuals involved.
The case is being investigated under Sections 506, 427 and 279 of the Penal Code.
