If you’ve ever tried Zus Coffee, you probably would’ve noticed their rice paper straws, which is a replacement for plastic straws in order to be more eco-friendly.
But have you ever thought of turning these straws into a meal? Well, this man certainly had this in mind and actually went ahead with it.
M’sian man makes pasta out of Zus straws for his meal
Recently, a TikTok video posted by @nosuganowori went viral, where it showed him making pasta out of unused Zus straws. It has since garnered over 1.5 million views and more than 41,000 likes a the time of writing.
In the video, the OP named Sulaiman demonstrated a quick recipe by cutting the Zus straws into smaller pieces before boiling them in water.
Once it was cooked, he added some sauce and cheese and proceeded to wolf it down. His verdict of the dish? “Very delicious!”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Sulaiman explained that his previous video inspired him to create this dish, which he named ‘Pastraw‘. He observed that companies have been making edible straws to be more sustainable but many don’t like them as they get soggy quite easily.
“I’ve always preferred metal straws, which led to the idea of ‘Pastraw‘. I wanted to use the unused Zus straws to make food to ensure that they wouldn’t go to waste since they are edible.
Also, ‘Pastraw’ is very easy to make. Simply add some Samyang sauce and grated cheese and it’s ready to be served.
Netizens impressed
Given the odd concoction that Sulaiman came up with the Zus straws, netizens were amused to see him savour the ‘Pastraw’ and began making puns out of it.
One netizen wrote that he would give the ‘Pastraw‘ a try when it comes to the end of the month.
Another joked that Sulaiman shouldn’t let the video go viral any further as Zus might starting charging customers for the straws.
